Frequently Asked Questions
Ketamine assisted therapy combines the therapeutic benefits of Ketamine with psychotherapy sessions to create a comprehensive and innovative approach to mental health treatment. Unlike traditional therapy alone, this integrated approach targets treatment-resistant cases and offers breakthrough relief for conditions like depression and anxiety.
The effects of ketamine, which most patients find to be pleasant, typically last for around 45 minutes. These effects can make you feel “far from” your body, and facilitate shifts in perception that can often feel expansive in nature. Your motor and verbal abilities will be reduced a bit, so you’ll be lying down in a comfortable position during the experience.
Once these effects subsided, your therapist spends the remainder of your appointment giving you space to process and discuss your experience. While it may feel hard to articulate what happened during the experience, people feel like the insights gained are still clear and helpful.
Studies have shown that the benefits to mood and neurological growth can last up to two weeks after the Ketamine experience, and longer with repeated sessions.
Yes, at Therapy Unlocked, we proudly offer Ketamine as a component of our comprehensive mental health services. Our experienced team is well-versed in safe and effective treatment using Ketamine, providing you with a potential avenue for relief in the realm of psychedelic assisted therapy.
Yes, Ketamine has gained FDA approval for its use in certain contexts, including Ketamine therapy for depression. This recognition underscores the credibility and safety of Ketamine as a valuable treatment option, especially for individuals who have not responded to traditional interventions.
While some places offer it as an “alternative” to traditional therapy, we believe it can be used in conjunction with therapy in many cases. It may be particularly beneficial for individuals with treatment-resistant depression or those seeking innovative therapies. Our team at Therapy Unlocked evaluates your unique needs to determine if Ketamine might align with your treatment journey.
Ketamine can be administered in a variety of ways, including IV infusion, intramuscular injection, via nasal spray and using sublingual lozenges. Currently we only use the oral form. It’s safe and easy to self-administer, without worrying about injections or IV lines.
That’s a tricky question, so we made a whole page about it.
The quick version is:
- If you are doing “self guided” sessions, then your cost is the cost of the medication and associated admin work (usually $150/month), plus the cost for your monthly visit with the prescriber and your regular therapy sessions. Those costs are usually your insurance copays.
- If you are doing “clinician guided” sessions, you do have the additional cost of the therapist’s time during your session. As most insurance only pays for 1 hour sessions, and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy are usually two-three hours, the extra time is self pay. For details check the ketamine assisted psychotherapy pricing page and/or reach out to us.
This depends on the program, and the details are up to you and your care team (yourself, your prescriber, and your therapist). Between the three of you, you will decide the details. Typically this is seeing the prescriber monthly and a counselor 2-4 times a month. You will receive prescribed medications that will help you on your therapeutic journey, typically (in the ketamine program) this includes ketamine that you take as prescribed, 2-8 times a month. Check out our pricing page for more details of potential options.

What Makes Us Different:
- We are Texans and focused on Texas, we are not some giant nationwide pill mill out to make a quick buck off you.
- We are counselor founded and clinician run. Not run by venture funds out of California or New York. We care about our community, not "market share."
- We are a mental health group made up of real people, our office is in Round Rock. We are not a faceless "disruptive tech platform." You will know your therapist and prescriber, like it should be.
- This is something we believe can be a helpful part of some people's journey. It's pretty amazing medication, but not magic and your mental health is important. It deserves effort, we know how to do that because we have been doing therapy a long time.
- Some places just sell ketamine and their business plan is based on selling it to as many people as possible. That's not us, it's just one of our many tools. If this is not right for you, or not working out, we won't keep pushing it. We can help you find a better path. Between counseling and medication, we have a lot of options.
- Because we are therapists first, we use Ketamine as a tool to help the therapeutic process and ultimately help you.
